Frequently asked questions.

How much does it cost to run a heat pump in Tasmania?

According to Sustainable Living Tasmania, a heat pump has 300% efficiency, along with an average cost of $561 per year over 10 years. This makes it the cheapest heating option as well as the easiest. Heat pumps also provide a cooling solution for those warmer times.

Is it cheaper to run my heat pump all the time instead of turning it on and off when I want?

We get this question a lot. Most people assume turning a heater off when it isn’t in use is common sense. However, with a heat pump, they are designed to maintain a temperature and work best when you let them constantly maintain a room temperature.

What is the cheapest way to heat hot water?

According to choice.com.au, for most households solar hot water is the cheapest form of water heating. Alternatives depending on the size of household include: Gas or electric continuous flow hot water systems for 1-2 person households and heat pump hot water systems or gas for 3+ person households.

How long does a hot water storage system take to heat up?

A gas system takes just over 30 minutes and a typical electric system takes almost an hour and a half. The heaters need to heat up all the water in the tank before it is ready to use.
A Sanden heat pump hot water system can warm up in 15 minutes.

What are the disadvantages of a heat pump?

There aren’t too many disadvantages to a heat pump. The most common complaint is that it doesn’t heat well enough.
However, this is usually down to poor airflow design or too small a capacity when installed.
With colder temperatures in Tasmania, it is important that it performs well, especially when temperatures are below zero.

What is the best hot water system in Tasmania?

We recommend the Sanden system which from our experience works well in Tasmanian conditions and saves you up to 80% of your hot water running costs.
