Wiring & Fuse Box Check
If your house was built before 1990 there is a chance the wiring is a bit average. I’m not saying the work electricians did was bad, because I’m not, I have seen some excellent wiring in older houses. But with new technology and training, today’s wiring and organisation are way better than back in the day.
If you often get power outages or even just parts of your house losing power, it might be time for an upgrade in the meter box or new wiring to be run. Perhaps a mouse has chewed through the cables in the roof or due to the natural shifting of a timber house wires can become pinched in between timber.
It’s a good idea to get your wiring and meter box checked every ten years.
If you are buying a house that isn’t a new build, I’d also recommend getting a licensed electrician to have a quick scan of everything.
Signs that you may need an upgrade could be:
Flickering or dimming lights
Lightbulbs always burning out in their sockets
Regularly blown fuses
A faint smell of burning
An ever-growing reliance on extension cords and power boards
